Executive Producers Madeleine Smithberg (Emmy Award-winning Co-Creator of The Daily Show) and Cheryl Bayer (Former Sr. Vice President of Fox Comedy), partners in Mad Cow Media, announce the launch of On the Spectrum, a new comedy series that offers a funny yet honest look at living with neurological challenges. The series follows Alan (Alan Weischedel), who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, and Danny (Danny Jordan), who suffers from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, as they struggle to create a successful YouTube channel, hold down a series of demeaning day jobs, find romance, and accomplish normal, everyday tasks that others take for granted. Alan longs for a woman's embrace, yet hates to be touched; meanwhile Danny works as a barista and gets severe anxiety from the smell of coffee.
While public awareness has focused on the challenges faced by children who are "on the spectrum,” the series depicts what happens when those children become adults. With a subtle comedic tone, and in the vein of Woody Allen or Louis CK’s Louie, On the Spectrum gives a voice to people of all ages who find every day life especially tricky.
Every storyline in On the Spectrum is based on the lives of Jordan and Weischedel, who also co-write the series. Says Weischedel, “The whole show is literally ripped from our lives. I wish I could say we made this stuff up but sadly this our existence. Socially, I’m a trainwreck, a train that happens to be hauling toxic chemicals forcing the whole neighborhood to be quarantined.”
Jordan puts it this way, “For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to make a show that showed my struggles with OCD. How it affects my career, daily activities, and relationships. Something that was not your typical representation of OCD.”
Every creative person has something. Alan and Danny use their talents to share their own often painful, but always funny stories.
Season One will be comprised of ten independently produced 12-14 minute episodes.
